Wondering whether you may be a candidate for a prescription weight-loss medication? Here is how FDA labeling defines eligibility, and what a Phoenix telehealth visit looks like.
Many Phoenix adults ask the same first question: "Do I qualify?" The answer depends on your body mass index (BMI), your other health conditions, and a full medical review by a licensed provider.
What FDA labeling says about eligibility
The FDA-approved labeling for chronic weight-management medications such as Wegovy (semaglutide) and Zepbound (tirzepatide) describes use alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity in adults with:
- A BMI of 30 kg/m2 or greater (obesity), or
- A BMI of 27 kg/m2 or greater (overweight) with at least one weight-related condition, such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, or high cholesterol.
Zepbound labeling also includes moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea in adults with obesity. Labeling can change, so your provider will confirm the current indications. See the FDA labels for Wegovy and Zepbound on Drugs@FDA.
Beyond BMI: what else your provider reviews
- Your medical history, including thyroid, pancreas, gallbladder, kidney, and eye conditions
- Personal or family history of certain conditions listed in boxed warnings
- Current medications and supplements
- Pregnancy plans, pregnancy, or breastfeeding
- Past weight-loss efforts and your goals
BMI is a screening tool, not a complete picture of health. A physician can look at the full context, which is why a medical visit matters.
How a Phoenix telehealth visit works
At TeleSlimClinicPhoenix.com, visits are held by secure video with a licensed provider. You can see how the program works on our personalized weight-loss planning page and review options on our weight-loss medications page. If a medication is medically appropriate, your provider may prescribe it. Compounded drugs are not part of our program.
What if you do not meet the criteria?
Not meeting a BMI cutoff does not mean there is nothing to do. A provider can discuss nutrition, physical activity, sleep, and other steps, and may recommend reassessing later.
Frequently asked questions
Is a lab test required before I can start?
Your provider decides which labs, if any, are needed based on your history. Some may be requested before or after starting treatment.
Can I qualify with a BMI under 27?
FDA labeling for these medications does not list a BMI below 27, so your provider would discuss other options.
Does a free consultation guarantee a prescription?
No. Prescriptions are provided only when medically appropriate. You can start with a free consultation, and the visit fee is cash-pay, so please review the details before booking.
Is my provider licensed in Arizona?
You can verify licensure with the Arizona Medical Board license lookup.
